TM Italia wins the Archiproducts Design Award for the Avignon kitchen

The Avignon kitchen designed by Nicola Gallizia in 2022 was awarded the Archiproducts Design Award for the kitchen sector. The award ceremony took place on 16 November in the setting of Superstudio in Milan during the event that animated the studios for the entire evening.

The jury of more than thirty international members was composed of leading architectural designers, journalists, architectural photographers and creative directors, who selected the projects distinguished for their concern for individuals, their celebration of diversity and their ability to break traditional stereotypes.

The Avignon kitchen developed together with Nicola Gallizia was born as a design reflection on the relationship between an individual and the product and an individual and the environment, as well as between the designer and the product and the designer and the environment: an articulated system of elements that introduce new discontinuities into the composition of kitchen cabinets, paying homage through its name and design philosophy to that ability to look beyond reality that distinguished the artistic avant-gardes of the first half of the 20th century. The distinctive elements of the design are the large handles in wood essence or stone, an ode to tactility and to the perceptive bond between product and individual; the overhanging elements, which suggest a ‘decompositional’ design approach and allow the creation of complex geometries capable of giving rhythm to the environment by alternating closed and open units; the invisible technology, which allows the product to transform itself by adapting to the changing needs of the domestic space.

The stylistic feature of the project lies in the number 7.5 which expresses the considerable thicknesses in centimeters of the table top, worktops and back panels, as well as the large handles, placed either horizontally or vertically on doors and fronts. Two materials are the protagonists of this Avignon set up: Eucalyptus Frisé wood used for all doors and drawer fronts, Dover White marble for worktops, back panels, the front of the island and for the pre-assembled sink.
The precious matt coated Eucalyptus Frisè wood, sourced from FSC-certified wood species and processed using a dyeing process free of synthetic substances, manifests the small ripples of the regular and parallel grain when light hits its surfaces. Dover White marble is characterised by fluid and sinuous shapes in shades of grey and milk white.
